Cats are born with claws, as humans are born with fingernails and toe nails. Cats need claws in order to scratch and basically stretch their agile bodies as they pull back from their hold. Scratching is a basic physiological need of cats.
So do cats need to be declawed? If you truly care for the welfare of your cats, think twice on declawing your cats. Declawing is basicly taking out all the front claws of a cat. In a way this procedure is equal to the amputation of all the finger tips of a human being. For cats this surgery is painful and, for someone who is walking on all fours, terribly unnecessary. Recovery from the surgery may only take a few weeks or so, its physical and/or psychological effects could last a cat’s lifetime.
At the end, cats are extremely and highly trainable to use a posts for scratching instead of common household furniture, rugs or curtains. Please consider taking the time to teach them what’s allowed to scratch and what is not. They will be thankful for you not putting them through something totally unnecessary.
Even though I work as a veterinary technician at an animal clinic, taking my dog Clancy in for a checkup has always been a hassle. Living in the inner city, it’s not practical for me to own a car. Fellow passengers on public transportation understandably frown upon dogs being taken on the subway. For a long time, my only recourse was to depend on friends and co-workers for rides. Obviously I was putting them out because few people are thrilled to have a small dog running loose in their car.
Everything changed the day my dog carrier backpack arrived. Now I can stow Clancy safely in the large, breathable compartment and pedal to work on my bicycle. Of course the added weight makes a bit of a difference, but the hospital is only a few miles away. The arrangement allows Clancy a pleasant view of the surroundings, and it makes the logistics of his checkups much more convenient.
It was just about time that I figured out a way to make my cat able to experience the out world. She had a simple carrier and I used to put her outside in the backyard on the grass to enjoy the fresh air. However I soon had to realize, that this pet carrier wasn’t the most comfortable way for her. It was too small to sit in for hours. Of course, you would say you can easily let your cat outside by itself and he/she will come back, but as a concerned pet owner on such highly traveled city streets you think twice before you let this happen.
Therefore when I came across that you can buy pet strollers
just like for your babies, I was more excited to get it for her then I was hopping she would be. Once the stroller was assembled I just left it in the middle of the room for my cat to familiarize herself with it. Without any fear she approached it, smelled around then just jumped in it and appeared that she felt comfortable right away. So if you are concerned whether your pet will accept a stroller or not, let them explore and you can be sure they will adjust quickly to their new “toy”. Encourage them by taking them outside as often as possible; they will then associate a pleasant feeling with a pet stroller. Once the stroller will be on the move they will know, the fun time has arrived.
Little tricks can be applied to make your pet love the stroller. Give a treat, put their favorite blanket inside, and be patient. As you do, they need time to adjust to new things as well. My cat by now loves her stroller so much, that even when inside she loves taking naps in it. So can your pet. Consider buying a pet stroller to make your pet happy.
When it comes to traveling with your loved ones safety and comfort are important considerations. This also applies to pet owners and their pets.
2-Wheeled pet strollers are a very easy and convenient way to travel with your pet. They can be pulled like a suitcase or carried like a back pack. They come in a variety of sizes and colors and are the perfect accessory for the pet lover who wants to include their pet in their daily adventures.
