imgp2266-misolata Life at a foster home then came to an end one night.   I remember, the  doorbell rang and of course all the cats would run to see who it was, not  me however.  Then I heard a voice, a voice that was full of love, passion  and care.  And I realized that she was here for one of us.   I thought,  well, at least one less cat around me and one of us can start a new life.  I  was not even dreaming that would be me.  But it was.  She came to look  for me as I was hiding beside the bed.   I did not wanted her to touch me,  but I guess I had no choice.   This lovely lady picked me up and started  talking to me in a very different language that I was used to so far.

She then asked me to jump into a black cat carrier, but that was the last place I wanted to be again.  I was forced into it after all and my road trip started.  It seemed the end of the world where we were heading, still, somehow I just felt that something good was coming.  After about an hour (eternity for a cat believe me), I found myself in a nice cozy apartment, free from other cats.   I didn’t know where to start exploring, I just kept meowing and thanking my new owner that she saved me.

What Kind of Dog Should I Get???

three-dogs-2 When the time arrives for selecting a dog to become a family member, you should have a  good idea of what you are looking for.  If you are just looking for an average dog, please  consider your local animal shelter first as you might be able rescue a loving little dog.

If you are looking for a puppy, rather than an adult dog, there are different methods of  selecting the best puppy from a litter.  The signs of a good temperament in a very young  puppy are friendliness, confidence, playfulness, and curiosity. First of all decide on sex, if  you want male or female, then you might consider colors or markings, and least but not  last look for a playful and happy attitude.

Choosing a mature dog will demand you look for different aspects.  A good temperament  is the most important quality of all.  Keep in mind that adult dogs are more difficult to  train, as they have already been trained by someone else.

The most important though is that you choose from the heart and not so much by the book, and you both will be happier.

Small Dog Versus Large Dog

small-dog-versus-large-dogThere are a number of reasons why small dogs are preferred among many owners.  Unlike with medium and large dogs, you don’t have to worry about living in a small apartment, or not being able to handle them as you get older.  Feeding them is much easier, and some of them can even be trained to use a litter box.  They make great companions, and can accompany you almost anywhere.  They can travel well, fit inside a two wheeled dog stroller that allows you to carry them easily.  Small dogs want to be a part of the family and included in everything they do.

They are not always available at animal shelters and dog adoption agencies, however you can find different breeds at your local pet stores and dog breeders, as well as online.

pg1280crAs an owner of a dog or cat, you have chosen the responsibility of taking care of their needs, which include food, shelter, health care and proper transportation.

Dog and cat carriers are an important part of your travel if you have a pet.   The pet carrier is a safe way of transporting your dog in the car, as well as a way of taking him places where he may not be welcomed to run freely or on a leash.  By buying a carrier for your dog, you are making a cost-effective investment on your pet’s welfare and safety while on the road.

With a dog carrier, you are also giving your pet the freedom to rule his own world.   Just like humans, dogs also love to have their own private place.  If you properly train your dog to use a dog carrier, he’ll think his carrier is a safe place and will be happy to spend time in when needed.

If your are ready to fly….

pg1280obIf you are planning on going on holiday along with your pet, you have to be aware of certain rules you might encounter. To decide which dog carrier to purchase you should understand and look into the airline’s guidelines.   Some airlines allow certain pets to be checked in as a carry-on.  The only thing you should do at this point is to choose the right size carrier fitting the room under the seat in front of you.  The dog carriers will be approved if they are smaller and fit there perfectly.

Some of the dog carriers are like backpacks, have two wheels for an easier pull and they are suitable for small dogs mostly.  The choice will depend now only on your dog’s comfort and your preferences.  You should make sure that your dog will be comfortable lying down in it for a longer period of time as flights might take hours.
