three-dogs-2 When the time arrives for selecting a dog to become a family member, you should have a  good idea of what you are looking for.  If you are just looking for an average dog, please  consider your local animal shelter first as you might be able rescue a loving little dog.

If you are looking for a puppy, rather than an adult dog, there are different methods of  selecting the best puppy from a litter.  The signs of a good temperament in a very young  puppy are friendliness, confidence, playfulness, and curiosity. First of all decide on sex, if  you want male or female, then you might consider colors or markings, and least but not  last look for a playful and happy attitude.

Choosing a mature dog will demand you look for different aspects.  A good temperament  is the most important quality of all.  Keep in mind that adult dogs are more difficult to  train, as they have already been trained by someone else.

The most important though is that you choose from the heart and not so much by the book, and you both will be happier.

Adopting versus Buying

farkaskutyaPlease consider adoption instead of buying.  Why?  Well, here are a few reasons that might make you change your mind when you are looking to have a new “life” in your home.

Adopted dogs, cats are usually healthy.  They end up in a shelter because of someone moving, having a divorce, encountering financial problems or simply neglecting.  The pets ending up in shelters are given top-notch veterinary care, they become spayed/neutered, and of course vaccinated.  The pets from shelters are mostly house-trained.   They are usually already adapted to household living.  They know to use the bathroom outside or the litter box in case of the cats.  Their personality is easier to be detected.  This might help align your lifestyle with the right animal and promote a better, long term relationship with your pet.   Adopting is green.  So why wouldn’t you recycle an existing life by adopting from the shelter? And the most important probably is that you will save a life.  Your adoption can also influence co-workers, friends and family to consider adoption.

Make a difference in an animals life today.  Adopt instead of buying.

pg1280obIf you are planning on going on holiday along with your pet, you have to be aware of certain rules you might encounter. To decide which dog carrier to purchase you should understand and look into the airline’s guidelines.   Some airlines allow certain pets to be checked in as a carry-on.  The only thing you should do at this point is to choose the right size carrier fitting the room under the seat in front of you.  The dog carriers will be approved if they are smaller and fit there perfectly.

Some of the dog carriers are like backpacks, have two wheels for an easier pull and they are suitable for small dogs mostly.  The choice will depend now only on your dog’s comfort and your preferences.  You should make sure that your dog will be comfortable lying down in it for a longer period of time as flights might take hours.
