Arthritis In Dogs

dog-in-pain Arthritic symptoms are fairly common in older dogs.  As they become older,  their joints often weaken and arthritis occurs.  Arthritis is often a very painful  condition that causes much discomfort no matter what age of animal it affects.  Thankfully, there are several things that dog owners can do at home to ease some  of the pain caused by canine arthritis.

Control arthritis by diet.  Overweight dogs often suffer more greatly than leaner  dogs due to the added weight on their joints.  Control the calories, reduce the  amount of treats you give to your canine.  Provide them a better sleep.  Hard and cold surfaces often worsen arthritis.  Allowing your dog to sleep indoors or on a heated bed will also offer a lot of relief for their pain.  Don’t forget to exercise your pet.  Getting your dog into a regular exercise routine that strengthens muscles and cartilage will lead to healthier joints as well.  Playing, and/or walking on a daily basis will increase the blood flow through the joints.

And least but not last, show them more love.  Help them when and how you can.  All arthritic dogs will appreciate their owner giving them a little extra attention.  Simply raising feed dishes off the floor so the animal is not required to bend down as far can be helpful in reducing joint pain.  Providing steps/ramp to areas where your dog once used to jump. Taking them for a walk in a comforting pet jogger as they can still enjoy the outdoors will make them feel better at least in their heart.

Emotional issues in dogs

sporty-pet-jogger-blackDogs are very well capable of experiencing many of the same emotional issues that humans deal with every day. They have the capacity to experience anger, aggression, depression, and anxiety just like their owners.  Anxiety is one of the main behavioral issues that many dogs experience.  The anxiety can be brought on by a stressful event such as going to the vet or something as simple as riding in a moving vehicle.  Other dogs may seem happy and emotionally healthy but are secretly hiding their anxiety like we humans often do.

If your dog suffers from depression or has trouble concentrating and relating to the world around them your vet can prescribe medicines or herbal blends of mood enhancing products to help them deal with these issues.  While medications can help your dog the best medicine is something you don’t need a vet to prescribe.  Spend more time socializing with your dog and keep them active.  Go for long walks, bring them to the park so they can run around and socialize with other dogs or take them for a vigorous hike in the woods.  The variety of activities you can engage in with your dog do are only limited by you, the benefits to your dog are endless.  And if your loved ones have any mobility issues, don’t forget the options are endless in pet gears that can help your pets still enjoy the outside world.

a601_pink_combo7About the pet jogging stroller:  A great way to bring your pet along with you on your outdoor excursions.  The model you buy has to be durable and fit the criteria/reason of your purchase.  Here are some important points for you to consider before making your selection:
• If you intend on jogging with your stroller suspension is very important.  Your pet shouldn’t feel every bump on the road.  The larger the wheels on the stroller the more comfortable the ride will be.
• The inside of the stroller has to be roomy enough for your pet to be able to move and get comfortable.
• If you choose an open concept stroller a fitted seat belt is a must.  The last thing you want to see is your pet being jolted out of their stroller.
• An interior that is easily removable and washable.
• Storage compartments so that you can bring along treats, water and food for your pet.
• The handle should be padded so that it absorbs some of the shock.
• Finally, make sure that your stroller is collapsible for ease of storage.

It is a wonderful feeling when your pet can travel with you.  A pet jogging stroller is especially useful for older dogs and pets, and for ones with tiny legs who find it hard to keep up with you.  They are a great investment for serious pet lovers and will give you hours of fun with your closest furry friend.

Now that you have a better idea of what to look for in a pet stroller you can shop from our extensive line-up of strollers with confidence.  Give your best friend a more comfortable, luxurious and healthy lifestyle.  Be the first to pamper you four-legged friend.
