Carrying for your Cat

sporty-pet-jogger-pinkPlaytime is just as important to the overall wellbeing of your cat as a trip to the vet. There is no need to spend a lot of money on cat toys. Most of the time, your cat will find many things in your house to play with. Whether you spend a lot of money on the toy or not, it won’t make a difference. Why buy an expensive toy when you have so many free options readily available?

Cats love to climb and rest in places where they can see outside. A sunny window could be their favourite place, and if the windows are high, the cat gets some well-needed exercise jumping from shelf to shelf to get to their spot. Cats also love boxes. Much like children, a cat can occupy itself for hours playing with a box. You can cut holes in it, line it with carpeting or old towels, and your new kitten will love it. Take a few boxes, tape them together, and build your cat a fort. Catnip toys are easy to make too. All you need is a little bit of cloth or furry material to sew into a pouch. Fill it with catnip and stitch some Velcro on to hold it closed. You can make it into a size and shape that appeals to your cat. Don’t worry, catnip is perfectly safe for your cat to enjoy. And if you have one of those laser pointers, your cat will enjoy chasing it. Just make sure that you don’t shine the laser directly into your cat’s eyes.

Toys don’t have to be fancy or expensive at all and aren’t a reflection of your level of cat care. The only investment required is your time. And if your cat loves to be outside, take the time and go for a walk with them. A pet carrier can be a perfect gift for them. Fresh air, new smells, animals around, it is a lot of excitement for your cat.

Fat Cats

royale_onetouchDid you know that dog’s and cat’s obesity is the number one pet health problem that vets see today? Of course, you love your cat and want the best for it, but you have to make sure to treat them well and right. Just like humans, if a cat (or any other pet) takes in more calories than its body can burn, the cat will gain weight. If in the wild, a cat uses up a lots of energy to hunt down and catch its prey. A domestic cat though that lives indoors doesn’t have to hunt and fight for its food. Food is right there waiting for felines any time they want it – the perfect environment for a fat cat.

We tend to refuse to see the fact that too much food is the cause of our cat having weight problems. You may not be feeding your cat many treats, but you may be feeding them too much at one time and/or too often. Veterinarians suggest that you serve your cat two to four meals a day – and think in ounces, not cups. 0.6 to 1.0 ounces per serving is plenty.

Cats need a meat-based diet with high levels of protein. Research shows that diets high in fat and protein are best for carnivores such as cats, combined with plenty of exercise of course. Try to help your cat burn extra calories. Unfortunately, you can’t go for walks with your cat as you would with your dog. Some cats might take leash training, but it’s rare. If you really want to get your cat outside, consider a cat stroller in which they can sit comfortably and experience the out-world forgetting to sleep and eat, for a while at least. As we all know, a typical domestic cat’s day consists of sleeping, eating, sleeping, and then waking up to sleep some more. You need to provide your cat some toys that they love playing with or other interesting things to do, like looking forward to a stroll in the park.

Emotional issues in dogs

sporty-pet-jogger-blackDogs are very well capable of experiencing many of the same emotional issues that humans deal with every day. They have the capacity to experience anger, aggression, depression, and anxiety just like their owners. Anxiety is one of the main behavioral issues that many dogs experience. The anxiety can be brought on by a stressful event such as going to the vet or something as simple as riding in a moving vehicle. Other dogs may seem happy and emotionally healthy but are secretly hiding their anxiety like we humans often do.

If your dog suffers from depression or has trouble concentrating and relating to the world around them your vet can prescribe medicines or herbal blends of mood enhancing products to help them deal with these issues. While medications can help your dog the best medicine is something you don’t need a vet to prescribe. Spend more time socializing with your dog and keep them active. Go for long walks, bring them to the park so they can run around and socialize with other dogs or take them for a vigorous hike in the woods. The variety of activities you can engage in with your dog do are only limited by you, the benefits to your dog are endless. And if your loved ones have any mobility issues, don’t forget the options are endless in pet gears that can help your pets still enjoy the outside world.

Socializing with your dog

dog-on-leashJust like humans dogs are very social and active creatures. They require constant attention and daily activity which leads to a healthy and long life. Without this daily activity and interaction they become bored and could develop feelings of neglect. This can lead to behavioral problems as well as health issues such as obesity and depression.

Here are a few activity suggestions for you and your best friend:

Visit the park – A daily trip to the local dog park is not only a great way for your dog to exercise but it also provides an opportunity for your dog to socialize with other dogs.

Hiking – Whether it’s a stroll in the neighborhood or vigorous hike in the hills the change in scenery is something your dog will appreciate. New sights, sounds and smells keep your dog mentally sharp since it forces them to be constantly aware of their surroundings.

Running or jogging – Not only is strenuous exercise good for you, but it is also great for your dog. Beside can you think of a more perfect running partner than your dog?

The Beach – I have yet to meet a dog that does not enjoy a good run on the sand, playing with the tide or chasing the birds. Never mind swimming to fetch a stick from the water.

Roller blading – Leash up and rollerblade together with your dog.

Walking, running or chasing after a ball or just being outdoors should form part of your dogs’ daily routine. The exercise not only improves your pet’s quality of life, but it provides you with a great opportunity to bond with your pet.

a601_pink_combo7About the pet jogging stroller: A great way to bring your pet along with you on your outdoor excursions. The model you buy has to be durable and fit the criteria/reason of your purchase. Here are some important points for you to consider before making your selection:
• If you intend on jogging with your stroller suspension is very important. Your pet shouldn’t feel every bump on the road. The larger the wheels on the stroller the more comfortable the ride will be.
• The inside of the stroller has to be roomy enough for your pet to be able to move and get comfortable.
• If you choose an open concept stroller a fitted seat belt is a must. The last thing you want to see is your pet being jolted out of their stroller.
• An interior that is easily removable and washable.
• Storage compartments so that you can bring along treats, water and food for your pet.
• The handle should be padded so that it absorbs some of the shock.
• Finally, make sure that your stroller is collapsible for ease of storage.

It is a wonderful feeling when your pet can travel with you. A pet jogging stroller is especially useful for older dogs and pets, and for ones with tiny legs who find it hard to keep up with you. They are a great investment for serious pet lovers and will give you hours of fun with your closest furry friend.

Now that you have a better idea of what to look for in a pet stroller you can shop from our extensive line-up of strollers with confidence. Give your best friend a more comfortable, luxurious and healthy lifestyle. Be the first to pamper you four-legged friend.

Establishing Right of Way on the Sidewalk

pet-jogging-strollerAbout a month ago, I took a proactive approach to getting back in shape. Although I’ve never enjoyed physical exercise in a gym setting, running around the neighborhood at least provides some visual variation. I live in midtown Manhattan, where the sidewalks are clogged with slow-walking tourists and cell-phone clutching hipsters. Just getting through the fray is often impossible and I end up having my exercise routine put on hold or cut short.

That’s when I purchased a pet jogging stroller online and allowed my Chihuahua Fifi to ride shotgun during my jogs. All of a sudden, I found that people were moving faster in front of me and even moving aside to allow my passage. It seemed that the prospect of a pet stroller barreling toward them with great momentum was enough to get them moving. Now my dog gets a little extra fresh air each day and I can continue jogging unimpeded.
